Attention 5th & 6th Grade and Older Boys!  Come and Join the Adventure!

Grow and learn through outdoor adventure with Boy Scouts Troop 940 of Middleton!  To join, boys must be between the ages of 11 and 18 (or 10 and having completed 5th grade).  Sponsored by the Middleton Optimist Club, Troop 940 has offered safe, exciting, hands-on learning experiences for over 30 years.   You do not have to be a Cub Scout first to join Boy Scouts.

Coming Soon:  Summer 2015

May 15-17 will be our Devils Lake State Park outing.  This will include camping, hiking, cooking, camp fires and orienteering.

Join Boy Scout Troop 940!

Activities:  Our Scouts spend much more time outdoors than indoors!  Scouts plan at least one outing per month, with a week of Scout camp and a multi-day adventure trip highlighting July and August.  Occasional high-adventure trips allow older Scouts to test their skills; close-by weekend trips help younger Scouts get used to the idea of thriving in the great outdoors.  Parents are welcome to join all excursions.

Advancement:   Scouts work together to earn the merit badges that Boy Scouts are known for, and we are especially proud of the 47 Eagle Scouts that Troop 940 has produced since 1983.  Reaching the rank of Eagle makes Boy Scouting perhaps the only activity that you can join in Middle school and include on your professional resume the rest of your life.  We work actively toward rank advancement, but learning to appreciate and enjoy nature is our main focus.

Troop Leadership:  Our Scoutmaster is Mark Harnois with 4 years of Assistant Scoutmaster experience and a lifetime’s worth of outdoor skills and appreciation.  Troop 940 is small enough for everyone to get to know each other and allow each boy the chance to take his turn at a leadership position.  Our older Scouts, under adult supervision, help and teach younger

Scouts about the outdoors and the Boy Scout skills they need.

Meetings:  Tuesday nights, 7:00pm at Northside Elementary

School during the school year.  Summer meetings are every other

Tuesday night, 7:00pm, at Middleton’s Lakeview Park Shelter.

2015 Highlights:

May – Camping and hiking the bluffs at Devils Lake State Park.

June – Canoeing and camping on Wisconsin River.

July – Boy Scout Summer Camp at Tesomas on July 12 – 18.  This is always a good time for the Scouts.  Summer camp offers many chances for rank advancements and earning merit badges.  The lake is clear and warm and is used for swimming, canoeing, kayaking and small boat sailing.
